My dream as a child was to be a math teacher of all things. I became involved in Girl Scouts and I really enjoyed being able to help others. I joined Mathletes in 6th grade because I enjoyed math because of the analysis and unknown answers.
What is pi?
What is the square root of X if 3Y and 3.5Z is equal to X plus 27?
I was on the path to become a math teacher. I took advanced math classes in school. It was my destiny or so I thought.
But my dream took a different path.
After recovering from near death I got to a point where I could go back to college. However many doctors said that wouldn’t be possible. I didn’t listen and took a calculus class at the local college. I surprised myself and others when I learned that I got the highest grade in the class.
By my dream of becoming a math teacher became diminished due to my voice. I feared others won’t be able to understand me. I knew the alphabet sign language but I don’t think that would have been much use. I looked around and discovered accounting. It worked but it still left me wondering.
I decided for my Masters to major in Forensic Accounting. I must be crazy but this kind of work was actually interesting for me. Now I just have to find an employer to let me use my skills. I think I have.
My dream changed as the circumstances changed. It changed for the better I think.
Do you dream?
