The difference between a goal and a dream is a deadline

Goals are specific actions that are desired to be done in a specified time frame or deadline.

Maybe you have a goal to finish college in 4 years despite raising a family.

Or maybe you have a goal to read one chapter of a book per week for a year. This means you will read about 3 books a year.

Or maybe you have a goal to just finish the race in 2 hours or less.

On the other hand a dream is a desire for the future. It may or may not happen.

Maybe you dream of having and raising five kids.

Or maybe you dream of becoming the next CEO of ABC company.

And the fun part is at any point it may not happen or stray from the path.

Does this mean that you should stop reaching for your dream? No but it may require it to be changed a bit until it is possible.

My dream is to race in the Paralympics representing the USA. I had high hopes of doing that in 2020 but that seems to be just outside my reach. I’ll just say classification isn’t perfect. But I’ll keep at it with hopes that they ‘fix’ classification after the 2020 Paralympics. I won’t be up and competing against those with less severe disabilities.

Keep up with your goals but keep in mind your dreams.
