The left sided people

The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body. The right side controls the left side of the body. The left side of the brain is responsible for logical and mathematical reasoning. The right side of the brain is responsible for spatial reasoning and musical abilities.

I know very confusing!

What makes this very confusing on my part is the things that I struggle with in relation to the side that was injured.

I had brain damage prominently on the left hemisphere in addition to brain stem damage. This meant that the right muscles were weaker. I am right handed so this was a struggle. I signed the letters of the alphabet with my left hand. I learned to write left handed. I drive with my left hand. I walk with my left hand holding the cane. I fear leaning right ways.

This is just wrong!

The brain can do some amazing things! New pathways can be formed when pathways are broken and new ways are learnt to do something.

One does not emerge from a coma like it is in the movies, rather it is gradual. A brain will sometimes make up a story using relative known facts to account for the missing time.

As I have been told, my story is the left sided people. I was stuck on a floor where I was only allowed to use the left side of my body. I know crazy? My right side was to not to be used.

This scenario aligns with what was actually happening with reality. Except I was encouraged to use my right side more and more.

Brain-map

Another twist to this is that at some point I think the sides of my brain switched. The left side was predominantly injured so I should have problems with mathematical and logical problems.

I love doing logic problems and I love doing math and working with math.

As mentioned before the right side of the brain is responsible for spatial reasoning ans musical abilities. This was the side with less of an injury but I have a slight problem with judging how close something is on my right side and I have had difficulty with playing the clarinet which I learned to play in middle and high school.

Oh I am so confused!

The brain is very complicated and much more than I would have ever thought. This is why I didn’t go to school to be a doctor.

No I went to school to be a Forensic Accountant.

That makes perfect sense!

question-mark

We are never meant to fully understand something. We are in a state of constant learning.

Oh and I write mainly with my right hand again.

Are you learning all that you can? Have the left sided people taken over you that are right handed?
