How do you lead?

Do you lead by example?

Or do you just sit back and hope for the best?

Either can work but if you wait, you really don’t know how long you will wait.

If you try it now, you figure out what works best for you.

It also gives a chance for people to say along the lines of WTF. If she can do it then I certainly can.

Ok we all have our own talents so you may not be able to do it. Maybe you swim but can’t ride a bike and you see her riding a bike which you probably can do but not in a condition to race internationally.

Oh you get my point here.

Most people with a severe TBI are kept inside unable to live their lives on their own terms. That is what was assumed.

It’s often frustrating for me because I often feel like I am holding them back when I do go to something whether it be Team RWB, Team Rubicon, paracycling, or something else.

Why stick me on something that I know I can’t do well? Why not let me chose ability wise and what I can do best?

This doesn’t come down to a point of disability but rather to a point of ability. There are just some things that are more dangerous or slower for one to do. People need to understand that and be willing to accept it.

I feel like I am paving the way. A long time ago people like me were placed in mental institutions or nursing homes. It was pretty much assumed that they couldn’t do much.

I hope people realize that these assumptions are wrong.

I had a severe TBI but I drive, kicked ass in school. live independently, race around the world, and able to work. Take that!

Are you leading the way?

  1. Keep kicking ass, and keep inspiring! I know it might feel like you are holding them back, but you are adding a higher level of leadership to any team you’re on wherever you go. Remember that! 🙂
